Mayor of Musashino City,Reiko MatsushitaThe village of Musashino was founded when 4 villages merged in 1889. It later became a town, and then the 3rd city in Tokyo on November 3, 1947.Located where the 23 wards and Tama area meet, Musashino is an extremely convenient city that makes the most of its compact municipal area. It has been recognized as a community with rich foliage and an excellent living environment.The city has 3 unique station areas. While the Kichijoji area is one of the city’s leading business and cultural neighborhoods, away from the station vicinity you’ll nd a tranquil residential area. Nearby is Inokashira Park, which is also used as a filming location for television and movies. The station building has been renovated and the North-South passage, Hanakomichi has been improved, making getting around easier. The Chuo area entered through the north exit of Mitaka Station has a concentration of administrative facilities such as the city hall, the Musashino police and re stations and culture and sports facilities, such as the Civic Cultural Hall, Chuo Library and Musashino Sports Complex. ere is also an expanse of pleasant residential housing. In the future, improvements will also be made to the transit environment around the train station in conjunction with improvements to auxiliary roads.The Musashisakai neighborhood has developed as an academic zone with an international character that is encircled by a natural environment full of greenery. e continuous grade separation (elevation) of the JR Chuo Line and Seibu Tamagawa Line, the completion of the square in front of the North exit of Musashisakai Station and urban planning continues to further integrate Musashino Place and the South exit with the North exit. e Musashino that we know today was built by our forefathers and this booklet has been created to look back on 70 years of history and move forward toward the future. We hope you will gain a sense of the advantages our city has to oer.The Sixth Stage of the Long-term Plan begins in 2018.
