Tracing war memories and dedicate tothe World peaceDuring World War II, the City’s NakajimaAircraft Company Musashi Plant, one ofJapan’s leading munitions factories thatPeace Musashino?Forum for Paving the Futurewere producing fighter engines, madethe City a target of air raids and the Citywas consequently heavily devastated inthe war.In order to pass down the memoriesof the war and the desire for peaceto the next generation, the City has promotedlearning and awareness-raisingactivities about peace among residents,as well as the recordkeeping of warexperiences. In 2011, the City proclaimedNovember 24 as Musashino Dayof Peace. The City will pursue furtherinitiatives that foster learning and internationalunderstanding about world peace.Prototype of Seibo Kitamura’s Peace Statue in Nagasaki,which is exhibited at the Inokashira Park Zoo SculptureMuseumCultural exchanges with overseas cities andsupports for non-Japanese residentsIn order to deepen the youths’understandingof global issues, who willforge the future, the City actively promotesinternational exchanges.Every year, junior high schoolstudents from Musashino City andLubbock, Texas in the U.S. visit oneanother’s country. With Khabarovsk inthe Russian Federation, the two citieshave expanded environmental protectionactivities. In Brasov, Romania, theMusashino Association, Japan, whichoffers Japanese language educationand introduces Japanese culture, wasestablished. With China as well asSeoul Metropolitan (Gangdong-guDistrict) and Chungju in Korea, youthexchanges are conducted.The Musashino InternationalAssociation (MIA) offers supports tonon-Japanese who live in the City andfacilitates their communication withCity residents. It also contributes tofostering local peoples’internationalunderstanding and inspires worldpeace through the creation of a multiculturalcommunity.Brasov, Romania, with which the City’s exchanges celebratedthe 20th anniversary in 2012The visit to Musashino of the Khabarovsk Youth DelegationRecording of cable TV program Musashino-FM while on airDisseminating community-basedinformationMusashino FM (78.2 Mhz) disseminatesinformation daily, includingnews, information on local life, andevent information. The radio stationwill serve as a reliable partner in adisaster. Since October 2011, theradio station has also begun broadcastingon the Internet.The cable TV station JCNMusashino-Mitaka communitychannel (channel 11) delivers localinformation to residents quickly. Inaddition to broadcasting the City’sPR program“Musashino CityNews,”the TV station allows theCity Government to directly broadcastemergency data.
