Community bus MuBus links the communityThe MuBus, which was launched in 1995 as the first community bus inJapan in response to a letter received from an elderly, has firmly establisheditself in the community as a reliable means of transport. 7 lines and 9routes have been established with the aim of eliminating areas with no orinconvenient access to transport. However, it faced amajor issue in which cargo handling vehicles were obstructingthe passage of pedestrians. In response to this issue, ajoint delivery program was started in March 2011. Using theJoint Delivery Center adjacent to the downtown as the basearea, cargo is collectively delivered to shopping street areasusing trolleys or other means. The City holds“cargo handlingrule awareness week”regularly and continues to implementactivities to promote these programs.Kichijoji Joint Delivery CenterFree earthquake resistance consultation at the Earthquake Resistance ForumDeliveries are made to business areas using trolleysWith a view to realizing a disaster resilient city that is preparedfor urban earthquakes, in 1998 the City began offeringearthquake resistance diagnosis and subsidies for promotingthe renovation of private houses. The City is taking furthersteps to make buildings along the designated emergencytransport roads more earthquake proof.The Consultation on Earthquake-Resistant Buildings areheld, in which experts respond to housing-related concernsand worries. The City furthermore implements the My HomeLeasing System, which allows households over the age of 50to lease their“my home”to child-raising households.44
