GreeneryandEnvironmentA sustainable city in harmony with the environment, whereresidents protect and foster greenery that is everyone’s assetGarbage pit of the Clean CenterThe City is taking on the challenge of reducing wasteto 600 gramsIt has become imperative that we shift ourvalues and lifestyles to ensure a prosperousliving, while protecting greenery and creating acity that is in harmony with the environment.In November 2006, the City pledged topromote waste reduction in collaboration withresidents and businesses to decrease the“amount of household waste and recyclablesemitted per person per day”to 700 grams?the average of the Tama area. This pledge wascalled the Musashino Waste Challenge 700Grams, and the target was achieved inFY2009. In FY2010, the City made anotherpledge, calling it Second Stage! MusashinoWaste Challenge 600 Grams, and has beenFlea marketurging for further waste reduction efforts.The City, in collaboration with the privatesector, encourages the reduced use of plasticshopping bags and the carrying of“My Bag.”In addition, the City has installed a MusashinoEco Board at 11 local facilities for residents toexchange information on items they would liketo give away as well as items they would like toacquire.
