Drawing on the lessons of 3.11 earthquakeThe accumulation of daily efforts is crucial for disaster preparedness. In addition tothe General Disaster Preparedness Drill, the City holds the District Initial ResponseExercise and Disaster Volunteers’Drill to raise residents’abilities to assist themselveswith others. The City is also reinforcing the management of welfare andevacuation centers, measures to protect people requiring assistance in a disaster,and medical relief activities.5 Disaster Response Squares are currently established in places, such asdensely inhabited areas. In a disaster, these open spaces, which are normallyutilized as parks, will quickly turn into disaster management spaces.As a measure to help people who are unable to return home due to thedisruption of public transportationfollowing a disaster, Kichijoji Rules wereestablished in cooperation with facilitiesand organizations in the KichijojiStation area. Since the disaster, the Cityhas increased the number of wireless outdoorMunicipal wirelessspeakers for disaster administration.
