Musashino City was incorporated shortly afterWorld War II on November 3, 1947 as a city of63,000 people, located almost at the center ofTokyo. With the rapid development of the City’sinfrastructure, large-scale residential housingswere built that resulted in the population of theCity reaching 100,000 people by the mid-1950s.The City continues to develop as a suburb,where reflects the high sensitivities and culturalsense of the people. Through the“Musashinoapproach”based on resident participation, a varietyof measures were advanced and civic activitiesare conducted actively.While the population has remained around130,000 people over the past five decades, newresidential construction such as major housingcomplexes brought the population closer to140,000 people.
