Musashino Jamboree nurtures friendships through outdoor lifeMusashino Jamboree is a summer camp program conducted with the cooperationof the Musashino Council on Youth Issue for the healthy development ofyouths. The program is held on a district basis during the summer break of eachyear. Fourth to sixth graders living in the City experience nature through a twonightthree-day stay at the Municipal Nature Village (Shizen-no-Mura) inKawakami Village, Nagano Prefecture. The activities are supported by communityresidents, withadults in the communityserving as leadersand junior highand high school studentswho previouslyparticipated in theprogram as elementaryschool studentsserving as subleaders.The great outdoors of Kawakami Village, Nagano PrefectureFirewood breaking demonstration“Discover, Feel and Think”Saturday SchoolSafe and delicious schoolmeals & food educationSaturday School offers a variety of hands-on experiences andinspires the lifelong learning of children on Saturday when schoolsare not in session. A broad range of courses is offered based on thekeywords,“discover, feel and think,”including sports, reading, businessand robot making. The lineup also includes a diverse variety ofcourses, such as Science Club for learning about science in a fun,hands-on way through experiments and demonstrations not done atschools, Children’s Tea Ceremony Class for learning about themethod and spirit of tea ceremony, Knowing the World Club forexperiencing cross-cultural communication through the lens of children,and more.Forest experience classRobot classTasting at the School Meal and Food Education ForumClass for business studiesKnowing the World ClubThe City has been putting much effort into the ingredientsand preparation method of the school meals itserves. With the introduction of school meals at alljunior high schools in 2010, the School Meal andFood Education Promotion Foundation, which conceivesschool meals as“education from food,”wasestablished. The Foundation provides safe and deliciousschool meals as well as carries out wellthought-outfood education programs, including theholding of the School Meal and Food EducationForum and nutritionists’visits to schools.37
