Group homes in local communitiesThe Group Home for the Disabilities is a facility whichaccommodates a small number of the disabilities tocohabitate with the support of staff members. At onesuch facility called Yahata House in Yahatacho, thementally challenged are living in an at-home atmosphere.The Group Home also offers consultation serviceson all matters related to daily living, includingfood provision, health management, financial management,and family contact, while respecting the lifestylesof each and every home user.Users having a welcoming meeting at the Yahata HouseNeighbors protect vulnerablegroups in a disasterWhen a major earthquake orother disasters strike, theearliest possible confirmationof the safety of vulnerablegroups, including theelderly and the disabled, willcontribute to the preventionof secondary damages.Under the leadership of theCommunity Council of SocialWelfare Promotion Association,a system has been developed in which neighbors confirmthe safety of those requiring assistance in a disaster.Such a support system has been established in all 13 communitiesof the City. More supporters are sought to supportour communities.Visiting a home of a person requiringassistance in a disasterInitiatives of the Senior Citizen’sHuman Resources CenterThe Senior Citizen’s Human Resources Center providessenior people, who are healthy and have the will to work, withjob opportunities which meet their wishes. The activities areaimed at enhancing the lives of senior people as well ashelping to create a vital society that leverages their capacities.By drawing on their experiences, senior citizens engagein a variety of work, including house cleaning, removal ofweeds from yards, replacement of Japanese sliding doorpapers, delivery of the City newspaper, recycling of furnitureand bicycles, tutoring of elementary and junior high schoolstudents, and computer classes.Training regarding the safety confirmation of people requiring assistance in a disasterDelivering the city newspaper Shiho-MusashinoReplacing the Japanese sliding doorpaperHealth Promotion Support CenterThe Health Promotion Support Center implements various programsjointly with health promoters (citizens from open recruitment),including lectures by the health promotion humanresources bank (instructors with specialized expertise).Anyone may register and participate in the events of theHealth Promotion Youthful Members if they are residents of theCity who share the motto,“Protecting our health by ourselves.”A gathering of Health Promotion Youthful Members32
