EnvironmentalProtectionProtecting the Environment We Live inwith Our Very Own HandsAn idea which is steadily gaining support in Musashino City is the concept that weourselves must take action to protect the environment we live in?from the issue ofhousehold and community waste to global environmental challenges.Efforts are ongoing to make the environment of Musashino City beautiful and pleasant.City volunteers help to keep towns cleanThe cleaning activity,“Early Morning Team,”has been conducted since2002 to clean areas around the train stations of Kichijoji, Mitaka, andMusashisakai every Sunday between 8 and 9 am. The“Kichijoji EarlyMorning Team”?a group of energetic volunteers?was organized toroutinely clean up the vicinity of Kichijoji Station with its major shoppingstreets. On any Sunday, around 15 to 20 volunteers are involved in theactivity on a rotational basis.12
