Along with improvements to the municipal infrastructure, large-scale housing was also constructed. The population passed 100,000 in the mid-1950s to mid-1960s, and the city continued to grow as a satellite city. Underpinned by an abundance of financial strength, urban planning has been promoted that reflects elements including citizens’ administrative involvement, a fully matured culture and a strong awareness of environmental issues. Resident participation and many forward-thinking measures are garnering attention, and against a backdrop that includes new large-scale housing construction, the population has now increased to approximately 145,000. Musashino continues to develop today as a city that balances nature-abundant residential areas with a high concentration of lifestyle industries such as education, welfare, health, culture, sports and information.04
