The city is also promoting the formation of greenery networks, such as development of waterfront spaces and pedestrian paths as well as providing information and offering learning opportunities on biodiversity.Jointly protecting forests that bring many benetsThe residents of Ome, Futamatao, and Okutamaprotect the forests. As an urban municipality that benets from the forests, in 2001 the Futamatao/Musashino Residents’ Forest was established with the idea of coping with the desolation of forests in the Tama area. In 2004, the Okutama/Musashino Forest was also established, and together with the town of Okutama the city has been tackling improvement of denuded forests. Forest Lectures for Residents are held every year in the Futamatao/Musashino Residents Forest.Supporting the Water SchoolThe Water School is made up of lectures that teach about water in everyday life, including waterworks and sewage. It’s something that everyone is benetting from. I’ve worked with water for many years in a food plant, so I was interested and participated in the lectures. From now on, I hope to help residents learn about water as a supporter and I’d even like to give a class at elementary schools.43
